THE AMAZING ADULT ADVISORS OF ROBINSON!

[wpsr_button id="sb-5"]

We recently conducted our biggest training yet: 75 Peer Leaders at Robinson High School! Both of our trainings for the staff & faculty members who came on board as adult advisors, as well as our mutual effort training our student peer leaders, were incredibly fulfilling. We can’t image a more enthusiastic & engaged group to carry the Sources of Strength message of hope, help and strength and spread it through every corner of the school!

Our team at SIOV was incredibly touched to receive moving testimonials from several Adult Advisors. Don’t take our word for it; read what they have to say about the SOS training days below!

Sources of Strength Adult Advisors of Robinson Secondary

Jennifer is an advocate for prioritizing the mental wellness of students and teachers. She’s especially passionate about incorporating mindfulness in the classroom and has shared her approaches with teachers at school, county, and state professional development events. We loved having her participate in the Sources of Strength programming with us, and were delighted to hear her enthusiastic feedback about her experience!

Adult Advisor Jennifer Fulton, English Department Chair

Jennifer Fulton is the English Department chair at Robinson. She earned her B.A. in English and Secondary Education from Mary Washington and her M.A. in English Literature from George Mason University. Currently, she teaches IB English Literature 1 and English 10.

“The Sources of Strength training days were incredible! It was especially powerful to witness students of all different ages, experiences, and backgrounds come together, open up, be vulnerable, and grow together in a relatively short period of time on the Peer Leader Training day! The students have great ideas for bringing more hope, help, and strength to all Rams, and I’m excited to see how we work with other initiatives already in place to support this vision.”

Adult Advisor Taylor Nelson, School Counselor:

Born and raised in New Jersey, Taylor’s roots stem from the shore but she has happily settled down in Arlington, VA. She earned an M.S. in Counseling from Johns Hopkins with a concentration in school counseling in urban cities. A Virginia Tech alumna, she also holds a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Sociology.

Currently, Taylor is a professional school counselor at Robinson. She serves students at the high school level helping them with social/emotional, academic, and post-secondary plans. We were so fortunate to have Taylor join us for the Sources of Strength Peer Leader training. It was so exciting to hear what a positive experience she had:

“You know when you have high expectations for an event that you are looking forward to and 9 out of 10 times it lets you down; this was not one of those times. This was one of those 1 out of 10 type of event that exceeds your expectations – a type of event you leave feeling inspired, motivated and full of love. A type of event that reassures why you got into the profession you are in. Sources of Strength is a program that communities deserve to have. A program that brings adults and kids together to share a common mission: opening up communication lines, offering support to all those around, participating in active listening, sharing a heart of empathy, and spreading an aura  of acceptance. I am so glad Robinson has SOS.”

Taylor is an advocate for personal growth. She shares a deep interest in neuroplasticity, as she believes all individuals have the potential to grow and brains are malleable. She is beyond excited for Robinson to have Sources of Strengths and believes our school will benefit from collaboration between students and adults. As an adult advisor, we can tell that she will make an amazing difference in the school community where she works!

Adult Advisors: Lisa Mosteller, English Teacher:

Lisa Mosteller is a wife and mother to two sons, and she switched careers to become a teacher. She’s passionate about working with teenagers and the importance of mindfulness, staying balanced, and maintaining one’s mental health.  “ I LOVE teaching teenagers; they are fun, energetic, kind, caring, compassionate, and amazing in many ways.” Last February, Lisa went through training to become a Mental Health First Aider for students ages 12 to 18.

She recently participated in our Sources of Strength Peer Leader and Adult Advisor trainings and shared some very kind words with us about the experience!
